Monday marks 100 days since the protests began, bringing the daily stand-off toward another important moment. A broader mobilization has been announced for that day, while citizens from across Albania have been called on to take part in the rally in the capital.
The protest’s 97th day was also marked by several developments. Friday’s rally began in the morning outside the Criminal Court, where citizens expressed their support for the protesters arrested following the tensions of September 1 outside the Prime Minister’s Office.
The court decided to release the 14 arrested protesters. Activists described the decision as a victory, stressing that the arrests would not stop the protest and that the action would continue.
In the evening, protesters gathered again in Skanderbeg Square, from where they marched toward the Prime Minister’s Office.
During the march, chants of “Rama, resign” and “Arrest Rama” could be heard, while banners carried messages against the government and in support of those arrested in recent days.
After speeches were delivered outside the Prime Minister’s Office, the citizens continued the protest by marching along the boulevard and through the streets of the capital. They repeated their demand for Rama to step down and warned that the rallies would continue.
A central part of the speeches focused on the protest announced for Monday. Activists called for massive participation on the 100th day and announced that they would surround the Prime Minister’s Office.
In addition to Rama’s resignation, the protesters have also called for the government to step down and for a technical government to be established.
The action is also expected to move outside Parliament following the resumption of the parliamentary session. Parliament begins its work on Tuesday, September 8, one day after the 100th protest, signaling a week beginning with high political tensions.
