The “Safe City” system begins implementation from today in the Ohrid Traffic Police territory

The Traffic Police in Ohrid informed the public, especially drivers, that as of today the gradual installation of the modern “Safe City” traffic monitoring system has begun in the area covered by the Ohrid Traffic Police. The system was officially launched on 01.02.2026, while today, after final testing, expert teams activated the security cameras on the highway section near Novo Selo, in the Municipality of Debërca.

According to the announcement, in the next phase the “Safe City” project is expected to become operational on the road section between the villages of Gorenci and Trebenishtë, as well as on other busier roads and on corridors 8 and 10, within the jurisdiction of the Ohrid Traffic Police.

The authorities explain that the devices have already been installed, but are still not issuing sanctions, as they are undergoing final inspection and technical testing.

The aim of this system is to ensure more efficient and uninterrupted traffic monitoring, reduce the number of road accidents, identify violations of traffic rules, increase traffic discipline, and achieve a significantly higher level of road safety.

“We call on drivers to respect traffic rules and regulations and to pay special attention to the permitted speed limit, which on this part of the highway is 100 kilometers per hour,” the Ohrid Traffic Police said./Telegrafi/
