They have been staying in the square since the end of May, expressing their determination not to leave until Prime Minister Rama resigns—one of their five non-negotiable demands.
The protesters accuse him of corruption and misgovernance, while stressing that he is treating the country like a private business. They have also reported him to SPAK, calling for an investigation into the “Albanian Files” book.
“Edi Rama, resign,” “Rama in prison, Berisha in prison,” “Arrest Rama, arrest Belinda,” and “Your end has come” are some of the chants that have now become a refrain.
The civic movement initially began over opposition to the project in the protected area of Zvërnec, but it has now taken on broader dimensions as citizens demand Rama’s departure.
