Tetovo University Student Parliament Calls for State Professional Exams to Also Be Held in Albanian

In the request submitted today to the Ministry of Justice and addressed to Minister of Justice Jeton Shasivari, the students said they had raised this issue several times over the past two years with the ministry and other responsible institutions, but no concrete solution had yet been found.

The Student Parliament is calling for not only the exams, but also the preparation materials and all other parts of the process to be available in Albanian. According to the students, holding them only in Macedonian creates inequality and additional difficulties for Albanians pursuing their studies in Albanian.

Student Parliament President Gent Kurtishi stressed that the issue is directly related to the right to use the Albanian language, as well as to the principles of equality and non-discrimination. For this reason, the students are calling for the full implementation of the Law on the Use of Languages, particularly Article 23, paragraphs 4 and 5.

“It is unacceptable for students who study in Albanian to face different conditions when completing their professional training. The language of study should also be the language in which students are able to take their state professional exams,” the Student Parliament said in its request.

According to the Student Parliament, holding these exams in Albanian as well would ensure equal conditions for all candidates, facilitate their preparation for practicing legal professions, and create equal opportunities for employment and professional advancement.

The students believe that both the legal basis and the practical possibilities are in place to organize the bar examination and other state exams in Albanian and Macedonian, in both the theoretical and practical sections.

In conclusion, the Student Parliament of the University of Tetovo called on the Ministry of Justice to take the necessary measures and offer a concrete solution, so that all students and candidates receive equal treatment and have equal opportunities in their professional journeys.
