A tanker was hit in the Strait of Hormuz by an “unknown projectile,” causing a fire to break out on the vessel.
The incident was confirmed early Thursday by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), which is part of the UK Ministry of Defence.

UKMTO said the flames had been extinguished and that all crew members were safe. According to the authorities, there were no reports of environmental consequences.
The attack came a day after a similar incident was reported on Wednesday, increasing concerns about shipping safety in one of the world’s most important maritime corridors.
It is still unknown under which country’s flag the tanker was sailing, whether it was carrying a cargo or what its destination was.
Since the Middle East war began on February 28, following the US-Israeli attack on Iran, the Strait of Hormuz has become a high-tension area.
After the conflict broke out, Iran declared the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, while the United States imposed a blockade on Iranian ports in the Persian Gulf.
The latest incident is expected to deepen concerns over the protection of commercial vessels and the transportation of energy through this strategic area.
