Student protest/Rama insists on dialogue, protesters demand the prime minister’s resignation

The protest by students and citizens against the government has reached its 17th day, but the standoff between Edi Rama and the protesters continues with no sign of rapprochement. The prime minister continues to propose dialogue, while the students and young people maintain that he should leave office.

Rama has once again posted images on social media of chairs placed in front of the Prime Minister’s Office and repeated his invitation to hold talks with the students. The protest, meanwhile, continues, and its demands now include issues beyond the initial concerns related to education.

The protesters have so far rejected the format of dialogue proposed by the prime minister, and his appeals have brought no change in their position.

The demand for Rama’s resignation is at the center of the movement, which has turned into a direct political confrontation with those in power.

The prime minister, for his part, has ruled out the possibility of stepping down, relying on the mandate his government received in the elections. He describes the mandate as a contract with the citizens and argues that the path to a solution is dialogue, not the resignation demanded by the protesters.

In recent days, clashes have also been reported in Tirana between protesters and police. These events have increased tensions between the sides and raised further questions about the government’s response to a protest that continues without relenting.

Even on its 17th day, there appears to be no solution to the crisis. Rama continues to call for dialogue, while the protesters say it is not enough for the government to listen to them and are demanding the prime minister’s departure. So far, neither side has indicated that it will change its position.
