After a 500-day period of continuous refusals, the Special Prosecution (SPAK) has finally authorized the meeting of international lawyers with Tirana’s mayor, Erion Veliaj.
It is learned that this decision, taken a few days ago, comes at a time when the legal grounds on which previous bans were based have not undergone any documented change.

The international defense team had long sought access to Veliaj with the aim of highlighting alleged violations during the investigative process, in order to send them as a case to the International Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
Beyond the unexpected decision, the motives that led SPAK to change this approach after more than a year and a half remain unclear.
