The “Safe City” system began operating on October 12 in Ohrid, Struga, Debar and Kičevo. During the first ten days, numerous violations were recorded, with 85% of fines issued for exceeding the permitted speed limit.
A total of 1415 violations were recorded in the area covered by the Ohrid Department of Internal Affairs. According to spokesperson Stefan Dimovski, the most frequent violation was speeding, with 1211 cases.

Dimovski believes that the Safe City system can help prevent accidents and reduce the number of accidents with fatal consequences.
“Every instance of speeding creates a risk and can lead to an accident. For this reason, one of Safe City’s main objectives is to reduce accidents, particularly those that cause deaths or serious injuries,” Dimovski said.
Citizens have different views on Safe City. Some say drivers have been more careful over the past ten days, while others believe its impact has not yet been noticed, as people have not adapted to this method of issuing fines.
