Safe City” with no tolerance: Lines of foreigners at Tabanoc to pay speeding fines

Minister of Internal Affairs, Pançe Toshkovski, recently emphasized that the “Safe City” system makes no distinctions and that every vehicle traveling on the roads of Macedonia, with local or foreign license plates, will be recorded by speed cameras with no exceptions.

These statements are taking concrete shape today at the Tabanoc border crossing, where long lines of cars driven by foreign nationals have formed. They are waiting to pay fines for traffic violations documented by the same system.

He added that any person who violates road traffic rules in Macedonia will be penalized, regardless of their country of origin, and that no one can avoid the sanctions imposed by “Safe City”.

At the beginning of this year, when “Safe City” became operational, it was announced that vehicles with foreign plates committing violations would not be stopped at the moment of exiting the country. However, their drivers will receive an official notice that they will not be able to re-enter Macedonia without first paying the fine.
