Skopje and ten municipalities receive 49 new vehicles for maintaining public cleanliness

A total of 49 new municipal vehicles will be used to maintain hygiene in the city of Skopje, as well as in the municipalities of Kumanovo, Prilep, Strumica, Štip, Ohrid, Tetovo, Negotino, Kičevo, Debar and Veles. The World Bank provided 4.2 million euros, which was used to purchase 19 multifunctional trucks in various categories, nine water tankers and 21 multifunctional street-cleaning vehicles.

The vehicles were presented today in Skopje. Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikolloski, mayors and representatives of the World Bank attended the presentation.

Mickoski said the project aims to improve the environment and raise hygiene standards in the municipalities receiving new waste-management equipment. He called on citizens to demonstrate social and civic responsibility, stressing that everyone should show the same care for the environment.

Orce Gjorgjievski, president of the Union of Local Self-Government Units (BNJVL) and mayor of Skopje, announced that five more trucks secured by the City of Skopje would soon be presented. According to him, the deadline for submitting complaints concerning the procurement of 3,200 containers for Skopje is also coming to an end.
