Siljanovska-Davkova: The future of our home depends only on us; no one will fix it in our place

On the occasion of September 8, Independence Day, President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova addressed the people with a congratulatory message, emphasizing that state independence is not merely a historic moment, but an ongoing responsibility that belongs to all generations.

In her speech, she recalled the referendum held on September 8, 1991, and the birth of a free and sovereign state, stressing that the country’s future lies precisely in the hands of its citizens.

“We have a responsibility that extends across generations to fulfill our immediate duties: eradicating crime and corruption, building a state governed by the rule of law without any concessions, and creating a peaceful and honest society in which all residents are equal and treated alike, whether they are Macedonians, Albanians, Turks, Vlachs, Serbs, Roma, Bosniaks or members of any other community. The message of ASNOM teaches us that the kind of Macedonia we build is the kind of Macedonia we will have. No one else will come to put our house in order except us ourselves!” Siljanovska-Davkova declared.

She singled out the exodus of young people as one of the most concerning problems, drawing attention to the urgent need to build a strong, developed state with a European perspective, in which the younger generation will see the opportunity to start families and plan their lives. Concluding her message, the president recalled that September 8 represents the day when the people, democratically and by an absolute majority, determined their own destiny as an independent and sovereign state.
