SHSKUK increases accountability requirements for regional hospitals, disciplinary procedures opened over suspected violations

Regional hospital managements have been asked to take greater responsibility for their work and take concrete steps to improve the quality and safety of healthcare. These demands were made by the Governing Board of the Hospital and University Clinical Service of Kosovo (SHSKUK), while disciplinary procedures have been initiated against individuals suspected of violations.

The October 16 meeting was chaired by Faik Shatri. The Board called for identified shortcomings to be corrected and audit recommendations to be implemented, assigning responsible individuals and deadlines for each measure.

The statement said the Board would regularly receive information on the progress of the disciplinary procedures, as well as on the measures that would follow.

To strengthen oversight of hospital services, the establishment of a professional working group was requested. Its task will be to review indicators on mortality, hospital-acquired infections, complications, cesarean sections and the use of hospital capacity.

The results of self-assessment questionnaires from ten surgical clinics were also reviewed. The Board called for measures to be prepared to improve services, coordinate work among the clinics and implement clinical protocols, as well as set priorities for infrastructure investments.

The discussions also included the report of Director General Elvir Azizi and the Draft Work Report for the January–June 2026 period. Investments, the supply of medicines and budget planning for 2027 were also addressed.

The Regulation on the Internal Organization of the Central Administration of SHSKUK was also approved unanimously at the meeting.

At the close of the meeting, the Board emphasized the obligation of regional hospital managements to report on results and the fulfillment of the required measures. It announced that oversight would continue with the aim of improving the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare services.
