Shot dead a 24-year-old and wounded his father; court remands suspect in Shkodër shooting in custody

The Shkodër court has ordered the detention of Andri Vulaj, the alleged perpetrator of Ylber Luli’s murder on September 8 in the “Kongresi i Përmetit” neighborhood.

The 25-year-old did not provide any statement either in court or to the police. The only statement came from his defense lawyer, Arbër Raja, who said that the suspect had knife wounds to his face, neck and the arm area of one hand.

The defense asked the prosecution to assess the suspect’s injuries and determine how and where they were caused.

Meanwhile, the victim’s father, Qamil Luli, said in his statement that he had been asleep when he heard noises from the altercation between his son and the suspect.

After going into the yard, the father admitted that they had stabbed the suspect, after which his son, Ylber Luli, was shot. He suffered a wound to the abdomen and died.

The prosecution also stated during the security-measures hearing that the suspect had gone with two people known to the victim, who accompanied him to the residence.

According to the prosecution, the victim, Ylber Luli, had asked his two friends by SMS to bring Andri Vulaj to his home so they could resolve the matter.

After they arrived at the house, a conflict broke out between the two young men. They initially fought, and after Andri Vulaj was stabbed, he is suspected of firing a small-caliber pistol at close range, killing Ylber Luli.

Prosecutor Albulena Kuliçi requested the security measure of “remand in custody,” a request accepted by Judge Zamira Lila, who ordered the suspected murderer, Andri Vulaj, to remain in pretrial detention.

The altercation between them is so far believed to have begun at a venue on Shkodër’s pedestrian street, where the two young men argued, saying to each other, “Why are you looking at me?”

The conflict then moved to the victim’s home, ending tragically with the death of Ylber Luli, who was shot with a firearm.

The defense is waiting to review the documents and evidence held by the prosecution. Afterward, the suspect may testify about the serious incident, while for the moment, according to sources, he is in a serious psychological condition.
