Serious Incident in Ksamil / Victim Identified: 20-Year-Old Was a Portuguese Citizen, Two Turkish Nationals’ Links to the Incident Under Investigation

Authorities have confirmed the identity of the young man who died this morning in Ksamil. Contrary to initial reports that the victim was a French citizen, further checks confirmed that he was Portuguese national Luis Miguel Varela Mendes, born on 27 September 2005.

He was identified through an identity document found during the investigation. The victim was initially recorded under the initials M. M., but his initials were later confirmed to be L. V.

The investigation led by the Prosecutor’s Office is also examining the role of two Turkish nationals. They were in the vehicle in which Sokrat Vata, the perpetrator of the incident, was apprehended. He was arrested a few hours earlier in Levan, Fier, while being transported toward Tirana.

Police and the investigative team are continuing to gather evidence to fully document the circumstances and establish legal responsibility in connection with the incident in Ksamil, Sarandë.

Once the initial investigative procedures have been completed, the authorities are expected to issue a full statement on the case.
