SDSM calls for publication of the full report on Gostivar’s water, six weeks after the poisoning

Macedonia’s opposition party SDSM has reacted to the absence of a full report on the quality of the water in Gostivar, even though six weeks have passed since the poisoning that affected an entire city and left more than 5,000 people hospitalized.

“During the crisis, citizens were faced with various and contradictory announcements. Initially, it was said that the water was unsafe to drink, while later it was allowed only for technical use. Toshkovski carried out hyperchlorination, and later it was stated that there were bacteria in the water. It was complete chaos. Meanwhile, Mickoski and Klekovski went on an excursion. Before it ended, officials drank water in front of the cameras, made an embarrassing toast and declared that it was safe for consumption,” SDSM said.

The opposition is asking why only some parts of the documentation have been made public, rather than the full water analysis.

“Where is the full report on the water in Gostivar? Who decided that the water should be restored for drinking use, and on the basis of which results was this decision made? Who is the person who guarantees, by name, surname and signature, that the water is safe? Is someone trying to evade responsibility in this way? Mickoski and Klekovski have an obligation to the citizens of Gostivar to publish the whole truth,” SDSM said.
