SDSM Accuses Mickoski of Replacing the European Path with Partnerships with Russia, China and India

SDSM has accused Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski of having no intention of bringing the country into the European Union and instead continuously working to find alternative partners, including India, China and Russia.

“Hristijan Mickoski held a working lunch with the President of India today. According to the official version, the meeting focused on bilateral cooperation, while unofficially, it was aimed at seeking an alternative to the country’s European orientation.

For some time, Mickoski has been demonstrating that he has no intention of leading Macedonia toward the European Union. Instead, he is systematically trying to establish other partnerships.

He first moved closer to Orbán and his Hungary, then to Vučić and Serbia, and now he is turning to India, a BRICS member state alongside Russia and China.

Was the possibility of Macedonia joining BRICS discussed during the meeting with the Indian President? Did he tell her that Macedonia does not need the EU because there are ‘other options’?

Did Mickoski mention that it would be more advantageous to wait for decades rather than implement reforms that would ensure an independent judiciary and accountability? Did he say that he had bid farewell to Europe?! He does not want to be part of Europe because Europe demands respect for rules, transparency and accountability.

Russia, China and some BRICS countries, on the other hand, offer a different approach: fewer questions and less oversight, as well as more opportunities to exercise domestic control over institutions.

This cannot be called diplomacy; it constitutes a political departure from the European path. Mickoski is already openly saying that we will wait decades for EU membership.

At the same time, he is strengthening relations with countries that do not demand reforms, judicial independence or accountability for crime,” SDSM said.
