Scenario of early elections in Kosovo, Gacaferi reveals when they could happen

After the completion of the election result certification process, political forces in Kosovo have begun consultations to explore possibilities for coalitions and to chart the path toward forming future institutions.

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti recently held talks with the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, as well as with the chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza.

After meeting with Kurti, Hamza announced that the PDK will continue to maintain its position as an opposition force in the Assembly, adding that it will be constructive on issues of national importance.

On the other hand, after talks with Abdixhiku, Kurti stressed that the discussions were held in a spirit of cooperation, touching on issues of the political situation, institutional functioning, and deadlines for establishing institutions. He confirmed that there is still no formal agreement, but expressed hope for continued dialogue.

However, Luan Gacaferi, a representative of the Guxo movement, is convinced that the opposition will push the country toward a new election round.

He rules out the possibility of an agreement with the PDK and considers any eventual agreement with the LDK unstable, due to deep divisions within that political entity.

“I continue to firmly believe that the opposition will lead us to elections again!” he declared.

He added that there is no and will be no agreement with the PDK, as this party remains focused on a strategy of successive elections, hoping to wear out citizens and bring the Vetëvendosje Movement below 40 percent of the vote.

Gacaferi pointed out that any agreement between Kurti and the LDK is destined to fail, as it is already clear that the LDK is fragmented into three factions that act independently, making it impossible to implement whatever agreement Kurti and Abdixhiku might reach. According to him, the MPs from the other two factions will not provide the necessary quorum in the Assembly for the election of the president, regardless of who the candidate is.

He argued that these two other groups within the LDK aim to trigger early elections as a way to oust Lumir Abdixhiku from the party leadership, predicting that Kosovo could face another electoral process during the autumn or winter of this year.

“Therefore, the other two LDKs have chosen as a strategy to lead the country to elections, knowing that Abdixhiku will lose them again and they see this as the only way to remove him from the LDK leadership,” Gacaferi concluded to “Bota sot”.
