Sánchez warns Europe: The extremist threat is spreading worldwide

Pedro Sánchez, Spain’s socialist prime minister, warned on Monday that what he described as an “extremist threat” is making gains globally. His reaction followed the far right’s historic victory in regional elections in Germany.

During a Socialist Party event in Madrid, Sánchez commented on the outcome of Sunday’s vote, in which the far-right AfD achieved a significant success. According to him, the result is a wake-up call for Europe.

“Sunday’s vote is a warning that the extremist threat, mainly thanks to the surrender of the traditional right, is gaining ground in Europe and around the world,” Sánchez declared.

According to the Spanish prime minister, the strengthening of the far right is linked to the weakening of traditional right-wing parties. Sánchez is one of the few left-wing leaders who continue to head governments in Europe.

His stance comes at a time when populist forces and far-right parties have significantly expanded their support in several European countries. This development is increasing pressure on traditional parties and reshaping political relations across the continent.

Sánchez stressed that the latest results should be taken as a warning by Europe’s political forces, while underscoring the need for a response to the rise in extremism and political polarization.
