Salihaj warns Kurti and Abdixhiku: An agreement is essential; they have no other option

Albin Kurti, Kosovo’s acting prime minister and leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, is expected to meet on Tuesday with Lumir Abdixhiku, chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo. The talks are being held as part of efforts to reach an agreement that would pave the way for the formation of new institutions following the June elections.

LDK lawmaker Besian Mustafa announced that the meeting has been scheduled for 18:00 and will take place in the Kosovo Assembly building.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo also received invitations from Kurti, but the leaders of both political entities chose not to attend.

Former LDK lawmaker Adem Salihaj, commenting on the development for “Bota sot,” described an agreement between Kurti and Abdixhiku to establish the institutions as essential.

Salihaj said that any political agreement enabling the formation of the institutions would be highly beneficial and deserved unconditional support. According to him, Kosovo must emerge from its two-year crisis, as during this period it has suffered major losses both domestically and internationally.

He said that the level of seriousness Kurti and Abdixhiku will demonstrate in these talks remains to be seen, but added that neither of them has another alternative. Salihaj warned that a return to elections would have serious consequences for both leaders and for Kosovo.

The former LDK lawmaker also stressed that, during the two years of crisis, Kosovo has significantly damaged its credibility with its international partners. For this reason, according to his statement to “Bota sot,” a solution to the situation must be found as soon as possible.
