Rome, 71-year-old woman found dead in wardrobe; son arrested, suspected of murder after disputes over drug money

Rome has been shaken by the death of a 71-year-old woman whose body was discovered hidden in a wardrobe inside her home.

After being unable to reach her, family members alerted the police. According to Italian media, they were also concerned about the ongoing conflicts between the woman and her son, who was allegedly asking her for money to buy drugs.

Carabinieri officers went to the apartment, located on the 14th floor, and found the 71-year-old woman dead inside the wardrobe. A bag had been wrapped around her head, while there were signs of injuries on her face.

The victim’s 51-year-old son was arrested in connection with the incident, suspected of killing her following a conflict between them.

In his initial account, he stated that he had placed the body in the wardrobe the previous night after his mother had fallen and hit her head.

The 51-year-old’s explanation did not convince investigators. After questioning him and carrying out preliminary checks, they detained him and later placed him under arrest on suspicion of having killed his mother.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full circumstances of the incident and the exact motive for the crime.
