Rexhepi Defends the Government: Law Is Not a Matter of Compromise

Eleven houses built without permission on land managed by the “Ibër-Lepenci” company were demolished in recent days along the shore of Lake Ujman.

As a result, the European Union representation in Kosovo issued a statement expressing disappointment with the intervention and concern that proper legal procedures were not followed.

The EU has called for the immediate suspension of demolitions and any similar actions until questions regarding ownership, the rule of law, and outstanding court cases are resolved.

According to the EU’s official announcement, an immediate halt to demolitions, forced clearances, or subsequent confiscations is required as long as concerns regarding due process, proportionality, property rights, fundamental human rights, and effective legal remedies are not properly addressed.

On the other hand, Agim Rexhepi, a representative of the Guxo party, in an interview for “Bota sot”, considers it unacceptable to shift focus from respect for the constitutional and legal order to some demolished buildings.

He stressed that it is unacceptable for the EU Office in Pristina and the German Embassy to pay more attention to a few demolished structures than to respect for the laws and independence of the Republic of Kosovo.

Rexhepi emphasized that the Government has a constitutional duty to preserve territorial integrity, state assets, and the legal system, and that no one, regardless of ethnicity or political support, can stand above the law. He added that if constructions violate the law or are located in protected areas, then institutions have not merely the right, but the obligation to act based on current legislation.

Further, Rexhepi stressed that international allies should uphold the impartial enforcement of the law and not leave room for the perception of double standards.

He recalled that international partners have long supported the rule of law in Kosovo, and precisely for that reason, they are now expected to support the uniform application of the law, rather than giving the impression that one set of rules applies to some and different rules to others.

Rexhepi reaffirmed the sovereign and democratic character of Kosovo and that the decisions of its authorities must be respected when they are based on law and taken by the responsible bodies. For him, the rule of law cannot be questioned and must not be selective.

In conclusion, he gave full support to the Government for all actions centered on protecting the general interest and strengthening the state through legality.

Rexhepi closed his statement to “Bota sot” by stressing that the Government deserves support for every initiative that protects the public good, state property, and constitutional order, and that state consolidation is achieved through law, not by tolerating irregularities. According to him, the path of a mature, European state goes through the defense of sovereignty, law, and equal treatment of all citizens before institutions.
