Resolution 1451 in US Congress Seeks to Move OSCE PA Session from Belgrade to Charleston

Faton Bislimi, an advocate for Kosovo’s cause in the United States, announced today that he warmly welcomes the introduction of Congressional Resolution 1451 in the US Congress. The initiative was launched by Congressman Joe Wilson, whom he described as a great friend of Kosovo, and is backed by around 40 bipartisan co-sponsors. It calls for the 2027 Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to be held in Charleston, South Carolina, instead of Belgrade.

Bislimi said that for more than 20 years, it has been consistently argued in Washington that stability in the Balkans cannot be achieved by favoring policies that often clash with the West’s strategic interests. In his assessment, Serbia continues to serve as an important instrument of Russian influence in Europe, while in recent years it has also strengthened its ties with China and Iran.

In this context, he stressed that Euro-Atlantic institutions must send clear signals in defense of democratic principles and collective security. According to Bislimi, these are precisely the arguments Congressional Resolution 1451 sets out against the possibility of Serbia hosting the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s next Annual Session in 2027.

He recalled that the OSCE is founded on the principles of freedom, democracy, the rule of law and respect for the sovereignty of states, and therefore the country where its representatives meet should embody these values.

Bislimi thanked Congressman Joe Wilson and all the Republican and Democratic co-sponsors for what he described as principled leadership. He emphasized that the United States’ friendship with Kosovo remains the strongest guarantee of peace, stability and the region’s Euro-Atlantic future.

In his response, Bislimi added that sustained work, serious commitment and the values of freedom and democracy have always served, and continue to serve, as his strategic guide for the country and the nation. According to him, when this commitment produces results, the sense of pride is multiplied.
