Residents of Maliq protest against merger with Korçë: Deputies should make their positions public

Residents and activists in Maliq held another protest against the territorial reorganization plan, which provides for the dissolution of the Municipality of Maliq and its merger with the Municipality of Korçë. According to them, the initiative threatens the administrative and economic future of the area, as well as the representation of the local community.

Concern was also expressed during the gathering about the low turnout of citizens in the square. Organizers attributed their absence to fear and pressure that, according to them, is being exerted on residents by government structures.

The protesters called on citizens to react and not remain silent in the face of the proposed change. “The dissolution of the Municipality of Maliq will directly affect the future of the city and our residents. Let us not remain silent in the face of this decision! Residents must overcome their fear and come out publicly against the proposed territorial change,” was declared during the protest.

The residents’ accusations were directed at local leaders and political deputies representing the area. Community representatives demanded that they come out publicly and clarify whether they support or oppose removing Maliq from the map as a separate municipality.

The activists warned that the protest held would not be the last action. They said they would continue their opposition and civic resistance on the ground through further protests in the coming days.
