Rama: Vlora Hyseni’s dealings with justice are an individual matter; this does not mean corruption has overwhelmed us!

Prime Minister Edi Rama said that Vlora Hyseni’s dealings with justice are an individual matter involving her own accountability.

“When a senior official has created a legal issue for herself, it is an individual matter between her and the justice authorities,” Rama said in a message addressed to Albanians from Rinas shortly after returning from the United States.

According to him, the fact that justice is also reaching senior state officials does not mean that “corruption has overwhelmed us.”

“The fact that justice is also reaching people in high positions, including members of the government, does not mean that corruption has overwhelmed us. On the contrary, independent investigations hold individuals wielding power accountable before the law; this does not mean that the governing majority is corrupt,” the prime minister said.

Rama also distanced himself from responsibility, saying that it is impossible for him to predict the behavior of every official when faced with the temptation of power.

“How could the prime minister know that a subordinate is thinking of breaking the law?! The prime minister is neither able to predict the behavior of every individual when faced with the temptation of power nor read someone’s mind when it starts working in the wrong direction,” the head of government said.
