Investigation into former SHISH director/Edi Rama: It is not the first time that the head of the Intelligence Service has been charged!

Today, Prime Minister Edi Rama delivered a message to Albanians from Rinas, following his visit to New York, where he took part in activities held as part of the United Nations General Assembly.

As expected, Rama spoke about the security measure imposed by SPAK against the former head of SHISH, Vlora Hyseni.

Rama stressed that it is not unusual for the head of a secret service to be charged, but described as exceptional the fact that, according to him, a former head of the secret service has become a national and international target.

He also said that the investigation and trial of Vlora Hyseni are matters that belong to the institutions of justice, while protecting SHISH from any collateral damage is the responsibility of the entire state.

The prime minister said that the time had come for the institutions to address the situation jointly and seriously, also referring to the Security Council, which is expected to meet tomorrow at the president’s request.

Among other things, Rama said that he had valued Vlora Hyseni’s work at the helm of SHISH and added that the partners had expressed the same assessment.

“It is certainly not the first time in world history that the head of a secret service has been charged, but it is the first time in the history of SHISH that a former head of the secret service has become a national and international target, the subject of media speculation.

Because of the measures taken after one of the measures that the state adopts in such an unfortunate case as this, the investigation and trial of Vlora Hyseni are the constitutional responsibility of the justice system, there is no question about that, while protecting SHISH from any collateral damage is the responsibility of the entire state.

The separation of powers does not mean separation from state responsibility, so the time has come for us to address this jointly and seriously. I believe that the Security Council, convened by the president tomorrow, is the right place to reflect on responsibilities and discuss guarantees to protect our institutions when their leaders become the subject of a criminal investigation. I have valued Vlora Hyseni’s work at the helm of SHISH, and the partners have done the same. Meanwhile, the attempts in recent days to explain the appointment of the head of SHISH through conspiracy theories have nothing to do with the truth,” Rama said.
