Rama speaks about Balluku and cites France example: Minister accused of pedophilia remained in office

Prime Minister Edi Rama said that his political responsibility ends when a case passes into the hands of the justice system. His statement came in connection with the latest scandals involving SHISH, Vlora Hyseni, Ergys Agasi and former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.

To explain his position, Rama referred to a case in France. According to the prime minister, a minister there was accused of pedophilia but neither stepped down nor was the president held responsible for him. The court later found him not guilty, and he remains in office.

Rama said that anyone who betrays the common objective must face the judiciary. He stressed that France is a country with strong institutions and used this example to argue that an official’s confrontation with the justice system does not automatically entail responsibility for the head of government.

According to him, different countries may have different approaches, but in Albania no one is protected when their case enters the sphere of the judiciary. Rama said that this is where his political responsibility begins and ends.

Balluku remains at the center of the debate over her legal proceedings. The prime minister has insisted that institutions must do their job and that criminal responsibility is individual.
