Rama denies accusations of shutting down social media accounts, speaks about the “Flamingo Revolution

Prime Minister Edi Rama has rejected claims that the Albanian government intervened to restrict certain accounts on social media platforms, which were allegedly linked to the civic protest that has been taking place in the capital for nearly 100 days.

In a response published on the X platform, the head of government categorically denied any involvement by state institutions in the matter, stressing that they possess neither the tools nor the technological capacity to carry out such an action.

At the same time, Rama strongly criticized the way the organizers or supporters of the protest movement have handled the issue, interpreting it as a tactic to shift responsibility onto the executive.

“I want to be crystal clear: we have absolutely nothing to do with the deactivation or limitation of any social media account, nor do we possess the technical capacity to undertake such an operation,” Rama declared.

In his post, the prime minister also expressed speculation about the origin of these blocks, linking them to a scheme called the “Flamingo Revolution” and to previous episodes of unrest in Ceuta.

In his full message, Rama writes that it is incomprehensible for people who describe themselves as European democrats to spread such shameless visual insinuations. He adds that he has extensive experience with blame games by political opponents, but considers it regrettable when such propaganda comes from those who claim to be democrats. Rama then raises the question of whether this entire maneuver is being orchestrated by the same malicious forces that inspired the “Flamingo Revolution” and the unrest in Ceuta, with the aim of reviving a movement that has already died out. He concludes by repeating that the government is not involved and calling those spreading this information a failed group that deserves shame.
