Protesters have begun gathering outside the prime minister’s office ahead of the resumption of protests against the government and Prime Minister Edi Rama. Calls for him to step down have been accompanied by a rejection of the proposal for dialogue.
Student protests have gripped the capital for several weeks, with marches through the streets of Tirana and stops outside various faculties. Lecturers and members of the public have also backed the young people’s demands, joining them in protest.

For the students, the prime minister’s resignation remains a non-negotiable condition. Rama’s repeated invitations to sit down for talks have so far been rejected, while the boycott of classes continues at universities.
The prime minister, for his part, has renewed his call for dialogue and announced that he will introduce an online platform to communicate with protesters. So far, however, this initiative has not changed the students’ position, as they continue to insist that he leave office.
