61 Days of Protests, Citizens Outside the Prime Minister’s Office Demand Rama’s Resignation: Albania Wants a Revolution

The movement against the government reached its 61st day today. Once again this afternoon, citizens initially gathered in Skanderbeg Square before assembling outside the Prime Minister’s Office, continuing their daily mobilization.

The protest, which initially emerged in response to developments in Zvërnec, has now turned into a daily citizens’ movement. For more than two months, protesters have taken to the streets of Tirana against the government and what they describe as the political caste.

Over the past 60 days, rallies and marches have been organized along the capital’s main thoroughfares. Participants have consistently demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, the holding of free elections, and a change in the model of governance.

During the previous day’s rally, activists again stated that they would not back down. According to them, the two months of protests demonstrate citizens’ resistance, while the mobilization will continue until the publicly announced objectives are achieved.

After the rally outside the Prime Minister’s Office ended, protesters began their nightly march through the streets of Tirana. Chants of “Rama, go,” “Resign,” “New Albania,” and “Revolution” were heard once again.

The same scenario is expected to unfold today. Activists and citizens will first deliver speeches at the rally outside the Prime Minister’s Office, after which participants will march along several of the capital’s main streets.

Organizers have stated that the protest will take place every day and will not stop until, according to them, the demands for the government’s removal and a change in the political class are met.
