Prosecutors Seek Pretrial Detention for Vezir Haziraj over Attempted Murder in Istog

The Serious Crimes Department at the Basic Prosecution Office in Peja has asked the competent court to order pretrial detention for Vezir Haziraj. The request follows investigative actions into the incident that occurred on August 7, 2026, in the village of Orroberd, Istog Municipality.

Haziraj is reasonably suspected of the criminal offenses of “Attempted Murder,” “Unauthorized Ownership, Control or Possession of Weapons,” and “Threat.” The prosecution has concluded that the legal requirements for pretrial detention have been met in this case.

According to the announcement, at around 20:40 on August 7, 2026, following a dispute between the defendant and the injured party, D.H., in Orroberd, the two became involved in a physical altercation. Haziraj is suspected of pulling out a modified hunting rifle during the confrontation and firing at D.H., wounding him in the left thigh and causing life-threatening bodily injuries. He is suspected of fleeing the scene after the shooting.

The prosecution also alleges that the defendant owned and possessed weapons without authorization, in violation of applicable legislation. These included the modified hunting rifle allegedly used to commit the criminal offense and a handgun, namely a revolver. He does not appear to have had the relevant permits for these weapons issued by the competent authorities.

A day later, on August 8, 2026, at around 20:53, Haziraj is suspected of posting threatening content against officials on social media. He is suspected of having seriously threatened in the post to harm them using firearms and explosive devices.

Kosovo Police announced yesterday the arrest of Vezir Haziraj, who was wanted in connection with the attempted murder in the village of Orroberd, Istog, which occurred on August 7 of this year. The suspect had fled after the incident.

According to the police, Haziraj surrendered after realizing he had no opportunity to escape. The surrender and arrest were carried out without incident.
