Prosecution Seeks Pretrial Detention for Suspect in Case Involving Around €500,000 in Losses

The Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina has asked the Basic Court in Pristina to order pretrial detention for a person identified by the initials E.R., KosovaPress reports.

E.R. is suspected of the criminal offenses of “Fraud” and “Misuse of Economic Authorizations,” after allegedly causing the injured party material losses of around €500,000 by misusing funds invested by another person. The actions are suspected to have been carried out with the aim of unlawfully obtaining financial gain.

The Prosecution Office said in its statement that there is grounded suspicion that the suspect committed the criminal offense of fraud, as defined under Article 323, paragraph 4, as well as misuse of economic authorizations under Article 284, paragraph 2, in conjunction with paragraph 1, subparagraphs 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.

The prosecuting authority explained that the request for pretrial detention was filed because it considers that the legal criteria stipulated by the Criminal Procedure Code have been met. The measure is intended to ensure the suspect’s presence during the criminal proceedings, allow the investigation to continue without obstruction and prevent circumstances that could impede the process.

The Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina reiterated its commitment to fighting crime, strengthening the rule of law and bringing to justice those who act in violation of the law.
