Prices Rise in Vlorë, Residents Say Wages and Pensions Are Not Increasing

The arrival of the summer season and increased demand, particularly from foreign tourists, have triggered another wave of price increases for fruit, vegetables and staple goods in Vlorë.

Residents say they are finding it increasingly difficult to cope with the situation. According to them, greater price controls are needed, as prices continue to rise while wages and pensions remain at the same levels.

High costs have forced consumers to limit the amount of goods they buy. Many say they no longer do their usual shopping but purchase only what they need for personal use, in small quantities and sometimes even by the piece.

Traders are also feeling the strain. They say the decline in purchasing power has directly affected sales, as residents are buying fewer products and, as a result, business turnover has also fallen.

Traders explain that the chain of price increases begins with suppliers. Goods are sourced at a higher cost and, once the profit margin is added, consumers face an even higher final price.

Under these circumstances, rising prices are affecting both families that need to buy everyday products and traders seeking to sell them, making it harder to cover routine expenses.
