Price Abuses in Season: Consumer Protection Center Sounds Alarm on Unjustified Fee Hikes

The rise in tourist numbers during the summer season has also brought concerns over price abuses in some of the country’s tourist areas. From tour packages with altered costs to basic products sold at prices several times higher, consumer complaints continue to mount.

The Consumer Protection Center has raised the alarm over cases where advertised prices did not match the real costs demanded after tourists arrived at Albanian destinations. According to the center, some holidaymakers have faced unexpected changes in the prices of tour packages and the services offered.

Hasan Stafa, Director of Complaints at the Consumer Protection Center, says another highlighted concern is the inflated prices for basic products, especially water, which in some instances has been sold at several times the supply cost.

According to him, such practices not only harm consumers but also damage the image of Albanian tourism and the experience of both domestic and foreign visitors.

The Consumer Protection Center is calling for increased inspections by responsible institutions and the enforcement of rules that guarantee price transparency, so that the tourist season can unfold with higher standards and greater protection for consumers.
