“Police surround Parliament, how long will you avoid the citizens?” / Kapri: The government has lost trust, Albania must vote early

During today’s plenary session, MP Erald Kapri of the “Mundësia” party took a harsh stance against the executive, commenting on the ongoing protests and the tense political climate. He denounced the fact that law enforcement forces are being used to create a shield around the government, protecting members of the cabinet and lawmakers from public anger.

According to Kapri, the majority and Parliament itself have already lost all credibility. He stressed that Prime Minister Edi Rama has not managed to administer the country under normal conditions for a single moment during this time. In his speech, the MP also drew attention to serious episodes from the recent past, mentioning what he described as the scandal of former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, as well as the wave of discontent caused by the Zvërnec project.

He portrayed the situation as a complete isolation of the government, not only from the people but also from international partners. “The protests do not stop. Police block roads and surround institutions, simply to protect you from the eggs they throw at you. But how long will you hide? This legislature has three more years to go. Haven’t you realized that this chamber no longer represents anyone? Rama has not known how to govern normally for a single day. Just a few months after celebrating his new mandate, the Balluku affair erupted, and he was forced to make some moves. In fact, because of the investment in Zvërnec, you completely lost control, and that powerful protest broke out. That is why you are now attacking the protest. This government no longer has any legitimacy and, moreover, is in open conflict with the European Union. The prime minister claims he has approved the best law of all time. The only reasonable solution left to us is to call early elections!” – declared Kapri.
