Police on the Front Line! Water Cannon Trucks and Metal Barriers—What Is Happening Outside the Albanian Parliament

This Monday, security measures have been significantly stepped up outside the Albanian Parliament building, where the latest citizens’ protest is expected to take place on the same day as the final parliamentary session of this term.

Water cannon trucks, metal barriers and an extensive police cordon have been deployed in the area around Parliament, while dozens of State Police officers have been assigned to maintain public order and security.

The Shqiponja forces and the FNSH are in the front line of the police cordon.

Organizers have called on citizens to gather outside Parliament at 08:00, describing the protest as a response to what they consider the institution’s disconnect from citizens’ interests and concerns.

This Monday’s rally marks the 58th day of uninterrupted citizens’ protests, while organizers have warned that the action will continue even after the parliamentary session ends.

As with the July 23 protest, authorities have once again stepped up security measures to prevent incidents and ensure that the rally proceeds smoothly.

The protest is taking place at a symbolic moment, as Parliament is expected to conclude its parliamentary session, while the protesting citizens aim to convey their messages against the political class and the way institutions operate.
