Poland offers the US $15,000 a year for every American soldier stationed in the country

Warsaw is considering covering part of the costs for the United States as negotiations on establishing a permanent US military base in Poland move forward. The offer also includes covering infrastructure expenses.

Polish Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Zalewski said Poland was ready to pay $15,000 a year for every American soldier stationed on its territory. He said infrastructure funding would also be covered by Polish taxpayers.

Discussions with the Pentagon include determining the number and categories of troops, military capabilities, and the areas where the base could be built. Thousands of US troops are currently stationed in Poland, mainly as part of rotational deployments.

US President Donald Trump has said talks on a permanent military presence in Poland are making progress. However, the final decision is expected to be made as part of a broader review of the US military presence in Europe.

Polish authorities see the permanent base as a way to deepen security cooperation with Washington and send Russia a clear deterrent message. Experts estimate that its impact will also be determined by the number of US troops and capabilities that remain in other parts of Europe.

Amid tensions on NATO’s eastern flank, Poland has significantly increased defense funding and is expanding its armed forces, thereby increasing the importance of the US military presence in the region.
