Përparim Rama condemns the Serbian minister’s statement: Rhetoric that fuels war and genocide

Përparim Rama, the Mayor of the Capital, has described the statement of a Serbian government minister as an open expression of an ideology that incites and supports wars, genocide, and crimes against humanity.

The minister had declared that, if she were in Slobodan Milošević’s place, she would have “ethnically cleansed Kosovo.”

According to Rama, this statement constitutes an insult to the citizens of Kosovo, while at the same time it relativizes and legitimizes one of the most serious crimes recognized by international law.

“It is alarming that, more than two decades after the war, a member of the Serbian government cabinet speaks in this language, about one of the most macabre and criminal acts of the last century. Europe has been built on the rejection of ideologies of ethnic cleansing. Therefore, any silence in the face of such a statement is a dangerous precedent. The European Union and the entire democratic world must unequivocally condemn this rhetoric,” Rama wrote on Facebook.

The Mayor of Prishtina called on the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo to respond “with clarity, dignity, and determination.”
