Pentagon Updates Toll from Conflict with Iran: 624 US Troops Wounded, Death Toll Revised

The Pentagon’s latest figures, released on July 25, show that at least 624 members of the United States armed forces have been wounded since the conflict with Iran began.

Broken down by category, 417 of the wounded are linked to Operation Epic Fury, while another 207 have been included under “Overseas Operations.”

The data show that clashes between the two countries have continued throughout this period, despite the United States and Iran reaching a ceasefire in April and signing a Memorandum of Understanding in June.

Over the past week, the Pentagon changed the way it records casualties, transferring the names of four soldiers killed from Operation Epic Fury to the “Overseas Operations” category.

Following this revision, the number of deaths linked to Operation Epic Fury fell from 18 to 14. The four other fatalities were moved to the new category, which covers cases recorded since July 7, 2026.

According to reports, the “Overseas Operations” category first appeared on the Pentagon’s official website over the weekend. It includes the four recently killed soldiers and 207 wounded personnel.

It remains unclear whether all 207 people listed as wounded in this category sustained their injuries as a result of the conflict with Iran.

The revision of the figures for those killed and wounded has prompted accusations of a lack of transparency. Ben Hodges, the former commander of US forces in Europe, said the administration is struggling to present a complete picture of both the casualties and the overall course of the war.

Criticism also came from Republican Congressman Thomas Massie. In a post on the X platform, he described the division of casualties into different categories as an “absurd deception.”

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell offered a different explanation, describing the changes in the statistics as “temporary data disruptions.” He added that the anomalies are being corrected in coordination with the military services.

The report emphasizes that the four fatalities were recorded after fighting intensified in July, a period when the temporary agreement between the US and Iran began to weaken.

On July 17, three US soldiers were killed after Iranian missiles struck a base in Jordan. Another soldier was killed in Iraq during the controlled detonation of an Iranian drone.

According to published information, US forces began strikes against Iran’s military infrastructure in mid-July. At the same time, US bases in the region came under attack for 13 consecutive nights. The strikes ceased on Friday, and by Sunday there had been three consecutive nights without attacks from either side.
