A shooting at a residence in Pennsylvania, USA, claimed the lives of nine people last evening. Among the victims were two children and, according to reports, a pregnant woman. The suspect in the killings was also found dead, with initial information suggesting he had taken his own life.
The incident began on Friday, shortly before 5 p.m., when a call reporting gunfire sent police to Perry Street, on the east side of the city of Erie.

Local television network Erie News Now reported that the first patrols found two women killed by gunshot wounds on the street, in front of the residence where the gunman was located. According to witnesses, a man had fired outside the house and then went back inside.
Authorities immediately set up a security perimeter and requested additional forces, as they had received information that other people were inside the house.
The suspect, armed with a handgun, barricaded himself in the building and refused to surrender. His standoff inside the residence led to a confrontation with police that lasted several hours and involved an exchange of gunfire.
Numerous police forces were deployed to the scene, including a special SWAT team. Through loudspeakers, officers repeatedly urged the gunman to surrender. Local media reported that during the operation, several more shots were heard from inside the house.
After managing to enter the residence, officers discovered lifeless bodies in different parts of the building. Among them were the two children and the woman who, according to reports, was pregnant. The suspected perpetrator was also found dead inside.
Erie Police Chief Rick Laura spoke emotionally about the scene officers faced at the residence. He told reporters that he wanted to be open with the community and described the scene as one of the heaviest and most heartbreaking his officers and investigators had ever seen.
Laura stressed that the loss of life was immense and that the circumstances under review were extraordinarily shocking. Out of respect for the victims and their families, he declined to disclose further details about what police had found inside.
While confirming the suspect’s death, the police chief also assured that residents of the area no longer faced any danger.
He offered prayers for the victims, their families, and all those affected by the tragedy, adding that the scale of this human loss could not be put into words.
The names of the victims and the suspected perpetrator have not yet been made public. The motives for the attack, as well as any possible connection between the gunman and the victims, also remain unclear.
