Not in my name,” Çlirim Haziri calls on MPs: Law on the Special Court must be voted on

The “Not in My Name” protest in Pristina has entered its 13th night, with participants reiterating their demand that the amendments and supplements to the Draft Law on the Specialist Chambers be put to a vote.

From Skanderbeg Square, the protest’s organizer, Çlirim Haziri, called on members of the Kosovo Assembly to take concrete steps on the issue of the Special Court.

According to Haziri, the declaration adopted during today’s session of the Kosovo Assembly on the judgment of the Specialist Chambers represents a political position, while the adoption of the law would have concrete consequences.

“Today, those bearing the greatest burden of this process are thousands of kilometers away from us: Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi, Jakup Krasniqi, Cali and Pjetër Shala. While they are there, our responsibility here is to defend our homeland and our KLA. Today, the Assembly adopted a declaration on the Hague judgment, and this proved that when there is the will, MPs can unite. Therefore, my message to the members of the Kosovo Assembly is clear: the declaration you adopted expresses a position, while the law we are demanding would have concrete consequences. The declaration remains on paper, whereas the law takes effect. The KLA is not defended with declarations; it requires action. Our demand to you is clear: the Law on the Specialist Chambers must be voted on!” Haziri said.

Tonight’s protest was held after the Kosovo Assembly adopted, during today’s session, the declaration on the judgment of the Special Court in The Hague.

The MPs described “the conclusion that there was a common criminal purpose” as unacceptable.

Meanwhile, calls have intensified for the amendments and supplements to the Draft Law on the Specialist Chambers to be fast-tracked for a vote in the Assembly.

The “Not in My Name” protest has been held every evening in Pristina since September 16, following the judgment announced in The Hague.
