North Macedonia’s Food Agency Warns of Greater Poisoning Risk Due to High Temperatures

The Food and Veterinary Agency (AUV) warns that, with temperatures expected to reach up to 40 degrees in the coming days, the risk of food poisoning increases significantly. For this reason, citizens are urged to exercise heightened caution when selecting, transporting, storing, and preparing food products.

“To reduce the risk of poisoning, food should only be purchased from verified sales points, where products, especially those of animal origin, are kept in appropriate refrigeration units,” the AUV stated.

The agency recommends that consumers avoid products with damaged or swollen packaging, while cold and frozen foods should be picked up at the end of shopping trips. Meat, milk, eggs, and other perishable products should not be left for long periods in vehicles or in high temperatures./Telegrafi/

According to the AUV, the heat also poses a risk to animal health. For this reason, animals should be provided with fresh water in a timely manner and sufficient amounts of safe food.
