New Wave of Israeli Attacks in Lebanon Strikes Hezbollah Homes, Killing 11 People

Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon have killed 11 people, according to authorities. It was described as one of the deadliest days since the announcement in June of an agreement aimed at reducing hostilities.

The Lebanese prime minister said that a strike on a house left seven people dead. State media reported that three children and two women were among the victims. Later, Lebanon’s Health Ministry said another wave of Israeli attacks killed four people and wounded five others.

According to the Israeli military, the target was “Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure,” while the operation was presented as retaliation for an earlier action against its soldiers. Israeli forces fired machine guns at homes and destroyed several of them. Footage showed large plumes of smoke rising over the country’s roads as warning sirens sounded.

Lebanon became involved on March 2 in the war between Israel, the United States and Iran. At the time, Hezbollah, the Iran-linked armed group, launched rockets toward Israel in retaliation for the attack that killed Iran’s supreme leader.

In response, Israel began bombing across Lebanese territory and occupied a significant part of the country’s south. Israeli forces continue to occupy around 5% of Lebanon’s territory.
