Israeli drone strike in Nabatiyeh kills one and wounds another in southern Lebanon

An Israeli drone strike in a residential area of Nabatiyeh, southern Lebanon, killed one person and wounded another on Wednesday morning.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (ANI) reported that Israeli forces had carried out several strikes in the area since the early morning hours. In the surrounding territory, clashes have been fierce for weeks, as the Israeli army continues to control positions in parts of southern Lebanon and aims to push Hezbollah fighters back from the strategic Ali Taher hill.

Israel acknowledged the strike, saying the target was “terrorist infrastructure.” According to the Israeli military, the strike was a response to Hezbollah drone attacks, which, Israel claims, have sent two attack drones every night against Israeli forces.

Since June, military activity had significantly subsided following the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, and after the signing of a framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel.

Despite this, incidents and violations on the ground have not stopped and have brought new casualties. On August 15, Israeli strikes caused 11 deaths, making it one of the bloodiest events of the summer. Meanwhile, last week, another woman was killed in airstrikes.

The agreement in force calls for the disarmament of Hezbollah, the gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon, and the full deployment of the regular Lebanese army along the border line.

Hezbollah’s leadership has opposed the official talks between Beirut and Israel. Negotiations are expected to resume in September, but no concrete date has been set yet.
