NATO begins repositioning KFOR in Kosovo, US warns of coordination with all parties

NATO has begun a phased process to improve the deployment of KFOR troops in Kosovo. According to the United States, these changes will be carried out in close coordination with all relevant actors.

The US Embassy in Pristina told Telegrafi that maintaining regional stability in the Western Balkans remains a priority for Washington.

A spokesperson for the US Embassy in Pristina said that NATO is currently working to optimize the positioning of KFOR mission forces, clarifying that the process will be implemented gradually and in close coordination with all relevant parties.

Throughout this period, close cooperation is expected to continue among Kosovo’s security institutions, KFOR, EULEX and other international partners, as NATO reorganizes the deployment of its forces.

In its statement to Telegrafi, the US side also underscored the importance of maintaining stability in the region.

According to the spokesperson, the United States considers maintaining regional stability in the Western Balkans a priority and values KFOR’s commitment to ensuring a safe and stable environment that provides long-term security for all communities.

The reaction comes at a time when KFOR has announced changes to the way its forces are positioned in Kosovo, including its presence near the main bridge over the Ibar River in Mitrovica.

Regarding the Ibar Bridge, KFOR has clarified that it is not the mission that decides whether it should be opened to traffic. According to KFOR, such a decision falls to the European Union and Kosovo’s institutions.
