NAME/ Identity of Albanian prisoner who escaped in Greece revealed! He tried to kill a young man in Thessaloniki—the 41-year-old’s dark past

Gentian Çipi is the 41-year-old from Korçë who made a spectacular escape yesterday evening (September 11) from Serres Hospital in Greece. Çipi has a serious criminal record in both Albania and Greece.

Specifically, he was sentenced in Albania in July 2024 to two years in prison for “destruction of property by fire,” committed in cooperation and under aggravating circumstances. Initially, he had been investigated under the measure of “detention in prison,” but the court later eased the measure to “a ban on leaving the country” and “property bail.”

He was accused of setting fire to a vehicle on April 24, 2023, in Neighborhood 13, on Loni Grazhdani Street in Korçë.

Earlier, in January 2023, as part of Operation “Threads,” police charged Gentian Çipi after discovering cameras installed illegally near his home.

On September 3, 2024, Gentian Çipi opened fire in Pylaia, Thessaloniki, attempting to kill a 25-year-old Greek man outside a canteen. The Greek man was hit by three bullets but managed to survive his injuries, while Çipi managed to escape.

Greek police managed to identify Çipi and organized an operation to apprehend him in September 2025. During the operation, Enea Basholli, 31, and Kleo Topa, 24, both also from Korçë, were arrested. According to Greek police, Gentian Çipi is the leader of a criminal group involved in drug trafficking and violent activities.

During the operation to apprehend them in Thessaloniki, Çipi and Topa did not obey police orders. Instead, they increased the speed of the vehicle they were traveling in and carried out dangerous maneuvers, crashing into a police vehicle. They abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, but were later caught. A few hours later, in the Halkidiki area, Enea Basholli was also arrested.

During searches by Greek police, they found and seized one Kalashnikov rifle with 30 rounds of ammunition, three pistols, a silencer, approximately 31 kilograms of marijuana, a fake passport, a fake driver’s license, 23,350 euros, mobile phones and three vehicles.
