My Teacher Was Shot While Talking to Me,” Says Student Who Survived Thailand Massacre

An eighth-grade student who survived a shooting at a school on the outskirts of Bangkok has described to BBC News the terrifying moment her teacher was shot in front of her.

“I was standing in front of the teacher when she was shot. She was talking to me when the attacker appeared and opened fire on her,” the girl recounted.

According to the student, after the shooting, her view was almost completely obscured by dust. “All I could see was a cloud of dust. He moved from one classroom to another. The desk where I was standing was very close to the teacher. To escape, I had to climb over the school fence with my classmates,” she said.

After escaping, the girl, still shaken by what had happened, remained outside the school grounds with her mother. Her mother said the first words she heard from her daughter were: “I thought I would never see you again.”

The student’s testimony is one of the most powerful accounts to emerge from the massacre that shocked Thailand. The attacker, a student, opened fire at the school after earlier killing his grandparents.
