Murati: Prosecution dismissed criminal complaint over blocking of Pristina’s budget

The Ministry of Finance announced that it has been notified by the Prosecution of the rejection of the criminal complaint filed by officials of the Municipality of Pristina, who claimed that the municipal budget had been blocked by this ministry.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the Prosecution’s decision shows that the accusations raised by Pristina officials did not stand and that its staff’s actions were in accordance with legal provisions.

“The Ministry of Finance has received the notification from the Prosecution that the criminal complaint filed by officials of the Municipality of Pristina has been dismissed, with the unfounded claim that the Ministry of Finance had blocked the municipality’s budget,” the ministry’s announcement says.

The institution recalled that the Municipality of Pristina had submitted the 2025 budget late. The document was sent several months after the legal deadline and after the Assembly had approved the Budget Law.

“This delay by the Municipality resulted in the municipal budget not being included in the Budget Law, which made it impossible to fully allocate and use the municipal budget in this case,” the Ministry of Finance stated.

The Ministry said that the leaders of the Municipality of Pristina had accused its staff of “alleged deliberate blocking of the budget” and, on that basis, had filed a criminal complaint.

“The Ministry of Finance welcomes the conclusion of this matter, which proves that the accusations against the Ministry’s staff were unfounded, and at the same time reconfirms its commitment to continue professional work,” the announcement says.

Murati: The budget was not blocked

After the Prosecution’s notification, Finance Minister Hekuran Murati also reacted through a Facebook post.

“The Prosecution has dismissed the Municipality of Pristina’s criminal complaint over the alleged blocking of the budget last year,” Murati wrote.

According to him, it has now been confirmed that the Ministry of Finance had taken no action to block the budget.
