Miha Oxhaklieski resigns after backlash over Don Xhoni’s music video at “Makedonium

Miha Oxhaklieski submitted his irrevocable resignation today as director of the National Institution Historical Museum – Krushevë. He described the decision as a personal, moral and ethical act reflecting his responsibility to the institution and the public.

The decision follows public reaction to the filming of Kosovar rapper Don Xhoni’s “Sexy Mama” music video inside the “Makedonium” monument in Krushevë, a protected site of the state’s cultural heritage.

In his resignation, Oxhaklieski said that no law, regulation or other provision had been violated. He said no decision of the institution’s Governing Board had been contravened, and that the procedure followed was part of an established practice previously used there.

He stressed, however, that the responsibility of the head of a public institution goes beyond complying with legal rules. He said the role demands high moral and ethical standards, especially when public trust is at stake.

Oxhaklieski apologized to the public for the uncertainty created and the unintentional oversight. He said he was apologizing out of respect for citizens and for the institution he had served.

Regarding legal responsibility, he said he was leaving with a clear conscience, but also with full awareness of the moral responsibility that comes with leading a public institution.
