Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski described the proposal by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for a direct meeting with the Bulgarian authorities as constructive.

According to Mickoski, the European Commission president advised him to ask the minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade to propose a meeting on the sidelines of the meeting dedicated to Corridor 8.
“I followed that advice because I believe the president was absolutely right to make this proposal. The minister requested the meeting, and it is now up to our eastern neighbor to decide on the next steps,” Mickoski said.
He said he did not expect the request to be rejected, as such a move, in his view, would not be wise. “If they reject it, the theses we have and our concerns will once again be confirmed. Nevertheless, the decision is theirs as a sovereign matter, not ours,” the prime minister declared.
