Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski has expressed a clear stance against the Economic Chamber’s initiative to reduce the number of official holidays and non-working days.

Speaking on the matter, Mickoski stressed that there is no doubt that the rights workers have gained must be fully protected and respected.
With this statement, the prime minister effectively put an end to the discussion surrounding the Chamber’s proposal, which aimed to change the current rule that provides for a day off on Monday when a state holiday falls on a Sunday.
The Economic Chamber argues that the numerous holidays harm productivity and burden businesses with additional expenses, which is why they are calling for a review of the non-working days calendar.
Trade unions have also come out openly against this initiative, warning that any reduction of non-working days would constitute a violation of employees’ already consolidated rights.
Mickoski’s position makes it clear that the executive has no plans to support any measure that would strip workers of benefits they currently enjoy.
